Download LINQPad

Download LINQPad
LinqPad is a great tool for testing Linq and/or c# code statements and/or expressions. If you need a quick test of how some language feature works, without running Visual Studio, you can just use this little program.
There's a whole more to it and I'm adding it here with a few keywords so I can find the name again when I need it. :)

C# and C : Professional C# 4.0 and .NET 4 - Book Information and Code Download - Wrox

C# and C : Professional C# 4.0 and .NET 4 - Book Information and Code Download - Wrox
Here are all the example code projects for the chapters in the book. Good if you don't like carrying physical media around any more.
There are some great examples for Workflow Foundation (and, I'm sure, many others). That's the chapter I'm currently focusing on.

Project Server Issues

Funny how issues pop up on their own with Project Server 2007 and Sharepoint. Today I used MS Project to open a project from the Project Server and it came with some error. Then I tried opening the PWA site in Internet Explorer and it came up with 'an unknown error'.
First I had to add Logging to Event Log for the events of level Warning and higher. This did not provide much help but at least I started seeing the Errors in the Windows' Application Event Log.
Searching over the web for similar experiences gave me a few ideas to try out and the one with stopping and restarting all the services on server worked out.
Going to Central Administration -> Topology and Services - Services on Server and shutting down the services seemed to do the work.
However, restarting Sharepoint removed the header mappings for the Sharepoint site. Since Sharepoint took port 80, and there was another server there, I had to add header mapping for the two sites so that the previous web site would still be accessible by its DNS name. Also, restarting the Sharepoint stopped the Default Web Site again.
So, fixing the headers on the Sharepoint site and starting the Default web site manually fixed everything.

Face recognition in Picasa is scary!

After being impressed by Picasa Photo Viewer, now I’m amazed and puzzled by Picasa’s ability to recognize faces in your photos. It is really amazing to watch the photos being scanned and faces pop up in the Unnamed Persons album. After assigning a name to a face, additional photos with that face will automatically appear in that name’s photo album as the photos are being scanned. Truly amazing that this technology is now available for everyone and for free.

Picasa 3.6 features : - Picasa Help

Picasa 3.6 features : - Picasa Help
I'm amazed by Picasa Photo Viewer behavior! The way this thing works simply changes my picture viewing experience. It is fast, the picture resampling is awesome. Pictures are clear. Zoom in and out while viewing is smooth.
The pictures are viewed as thumbnails in folders. Picasa Photo Viewer comes with Picasa 3.6. Try it out even if you've used Picasa before.
The only downside is that it does not animate GIFs, which IrfanView does.

Mercurial SCC Provider (Enterprise Architect)

I'm looking to move Enterprise Architect source versioning provider from SVN to Mercurial. One unnoticed feature is to use SCC provider, instead of direct support within the EA.
To do that, an SCC provider needs to be configured first and then selected within the Enterprise Architect. Check the following links for the instructions on how to use SCC provider in EA and the SCC Provider for Mercurial.

Sergant's Home Page

From the Hg SCC Provider page, download this file. It is an older version of the provider, supporting MS SCCI API which is compatible with Source Safe and other software. The newer versions only support Visual Studio SCC Package API and is not recognized by Enterprise Architect.

Set your repository to Update on Pull and Push on Commit and the workflow is similar to the SVN one.

|T|6.5.5|ROM|WWE| ★ Energy Series 23554/21898 |Apr 1| ★ Sense 2.5 / 2.1 / Titanium ★ - xda-developers

I've just completed download of HTC's official ROM upgrade for Touch Diamond 2. Since I already hard-reset the phone a couple of days ago, I decided to try out a newer ROM.
One of the task manager programs I found recently noted that it was meant to be used *only* on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and later, which prompted me to look into WM versions. Now, since there is the version 6.5.5 out there, I decided to try out some cooked ROMs and see what happens. My first choice is the Energy ROM.
It appears that this ROM has a wifi bug, where wifi turns on and off at random, so I'll still go with the official HTC ROM first.

VMWare Workstation on Windows 7

After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, VMWare virtual network adapters disappeared from the host computer. My virtual machines could not connect to the host anymore.

To fix the issue, run the Virtual Network Editor and click ‘Restore Defaults’ to recreate all the adapters.

Disabling animation in Manila Home screen

After I did a hard reset on my HTC Touch Diamond 2 PocketPC I started noticing the weather animations on the home screen of Touch FLO (Manila) interface. This becomes annoying after a short time and I decided to disable it.
After browsing through the XDA developers forum I figured out that the simplest way to disable the animations is to actually set a wallpaper for the home screen. In this case the animations will not appear any more.

acbPocketSoft - Products

acbPocketSoft - Products
acbPocketSoft has some nice (and free) diagnostics programs for Windows Mobile. The first program I found is a task manager, displaying running processes, their CPU usage and memory consumption.
Another one is PowerMeter, showing the current power usage of the device. It allows to see the power drain caused by wireless communication, or programs.

Upgrading SQL Server from Express to Developer

One of the standard hurdles I go through every time I'm installing SQL Developer Edition after Visual Studio is getting it right. I often get problems where I can't install some part of the installation, or all the options are marked with red X, or something like that.
When installing a different version of SQL Server, make sure you run the Setup.exe from a command line and add the following parameter:
SKUUPGRADE=1
