"Cut Alcohol to Less Than One Drink a Day, Britons Are Warned"Considering the cancer risk, the maximum recommended amount of alcohol in UK is six regular drinks per week. Another recommendation is to have several alcohol-free days a week.
The previously-recommended benefit of alcohol "for heart health only apply for women aged 55 and older".
Drinkers are recommended "not to concentrate alcohol consumption" in heavy drinking sessions.
"Even an alcohol intake of less than 1.5 units a day increases the risk of mouth and throat cancer, the panel found, while an intake of more than about 6 units a day raises the risk of liver and pancreatic cancer."
