Quartz.Net - Enterprise Job Scheduler on .Net

Quartz.NET - Enterprise Job Scheduler for .NET Platform
I've just been recommended to use the above project as the scheduler platform on which to base recurring job activation. Will have a more detailed look into it and post findings on my new Knowledge Base site - Alen's IT.

Git

Git is a distributed source version control tool.
Martin Fowler mentions it in his blog post, where he describes his thoughts on the topic. There's a lot of good links in that post. Here are a few more useful ones...

Git - SVN Crash Course
Git Community Book - the heart of documentation,
and, of course, TortoiseGit download page.

If you’d like to use git in a fashion similar to CVS (or SVN), read gitcvs-migration.

Also, here is the link to Mercurial home.

Aptana

Aptana
Searching for a decent free WYSIWYG HTML editor, I came across Aptana. Aptana Studio can be used as a standalone IDE or within Eclipse. It is free and open-source software. There are several recommendations on the net about using it as an HTML editor within Eclipse.
Worth giving it a go.

To install Aptana RadRails 2.0 plugin, add the following to the list of Available Software Sites in Eclipse:
Detailed instructions below (from http://www.radrails.org/radrails/plugin):
Detailed Directions:
  1. From the Help menu, select Install New Software... to open an Install pop-up window.
  2. In the Work with: text box, paste the above RadRails Bundle URL site, and click Add.
  3. In the Name: prompt, type Aptana RadRails Bundle.
  4. Click OK to return to the Install Wizard.
  5. Select the Rails feature checkbox and click Next.
  6. In the Installation Details page, clickNext once again.
  7. In the Renew Licenses page, accept the terms agreement and click Finish
  8. Installation will begin. You will be prompted to restart your Eclipse once the install has completed.

Home (Alen's IT)

Home (Alen's IT)
I've just started a new site just for IT issues. It is hosted on Google Sites because I want to play with that infrastructure for a bit. The sites are easy to maintain through a web browser and serve as something between a blog and a full-blown web site. The site-wide search works perfectly and that fits the bill better than simply posting technical articles to a blog. Not that there is much practical difference but at least I can have a proper table of contents and differentiate between articles that go there and news and opinions that go to (this) blog.

Tabs on Top and autoHideStatusbar - Firefox Addons

I've just started using two more Firefox addons:
  • Tabs on Top does exactly what the name implies. It will put tabs on top of address bar. This will result in the look and feel that is the same as Google Chrome.
  • autoHideStatusbar will hide the status bar to provide more space for viewing the page content. The status bar will show when hovering over links or while the page is loading. Also, when using Hide Menu addon, status bar will show when pressing Alt key to display the menu. Ideal hover time (wait until the status bar is displayed when hovering over a link) is 125ms.
Used in combination with Hide Menu, Hide Caption, and Omnibar, the final look and feel of
Firefox will be exactly the same as that of Google Chrome. :) No need to say that the usage gets more practical, leaving more room for the actual page content.
Note that, when caption is hidden, you can move the window by displaying the menu first (Alt key) and then grabbing the empty part of the menu bar to drag the window to a desired position on the screen.

Google Chrome NTLM Authentication with Proxy Server

After a change at work I started having a weird problem with Google Chrome. It would pop up the authentication dialog for every outgoing request. The dialog would appear many times for each page so it was hard to identify whether it is a bug or a wrong setting in proxy server or in the domain policy.
However, the solution is simple - instead typing in your username and password, add the domain name to your username. Fill in the full username in the format DOMAIN\Username and everything will be alright.

EUdict | kliješta | Croatian-English dictionary

EUdict | kliješta | Croatian-English dictionary
I have finally come across a dictionary between one of the Southern-Slavic languages and English. Croatian-English dictionary should finally help me express some thoughts other than work-related ones to my friends. :))
